Pregnancy Support & Acupuncture

Pregnancy brings significant physical and hormonal changes, and while it can be an exciting time, it can also come with a range of aches, discomforts and other pregnancy-related symptoms.

Acupuncture may be used throughout pregnancy as a complementary therapy, with treatment adapted according to the stage of pregnancy, individual presentation and changing needs of the mother.

Acupuncture During Pregnancy

Depending on the individual, acupuncture may be used to support the management of common pregnancy-related concerns such as nausea and morning sickness, pelvic and lower back pain, headaches, sleep disturbance, stress and general pregnancy discomfort.

As pregnancy progresses, the focus of treatment may change. Later in pregnancy, acupuncture and moxibustion may also be considered for breech presentation and birth preparation where appropriate.

Pregnancy Through a Chinese Medicine Lens

Chinese medicine recognises pregnancy as a unique period in which treatment should support the mother while respecting the physiological changes occurring throughout each trimester.

Treatment is always individualised and adapted as the pregnancy progresses. This means considering not only the presenting symptoms, but also sleep, digestion, energy, emotional wellbeing and overall pregnancy health.

Pregnancy acupuncture is safe is provided alongside your usual antenatal care and does not replace care from your midwife, GP or obstetrician.
