Sports Injuries & Acupuncture
Sports injuries can affect everyone from competitive athletes to people who simply enjoy staying active. Injuries may develop suddenly following a particular movement or impact, or gradually through repetitive loading, overuse or inadequate recovery.
Common presentations include muscle strains, ligament sprains, tendon injuries, joint pain, muscular tightness and ongoing pain following an older injury.
Acupuncture for Sports Injuries
Acupuncture can be incorporated into a broader rehabilitation plan to help manage pain, reduce muscular tension and support a return to comfortable movement and activity.
Treatment is tailored to the specific injury and may involve acupuncture around the affected area as well as other relevant points. Depending on the presentation, I may also incorporate techniques such as electroacupuncture, cupping or gua sha.
Treatment can be adapted as the injury progresses, from managing symptoms in the earlier stages through to supporting rehabilitation and return to activity.
Supporting Recovery and Performance
Treating a sports injury is not just about where it hurts. It is important to consider how the injury occurred, which movements aggravate it, surrounding muscular tension, training load and whether previous injuries may be contributing.
Acupuncture can work alongside physiotherapy, exercise rehabilitation, strength training and other appropriate treatments, allowing it to fit into a broader recovery plan.
The aim is not simply to temporarily reduce pain, but to support recovery, restore comfortable movement and help you get back to the activities you enjoy.
