Neck & Back Pain & Acupuncture
Neck and back pain are among the most common musculoskeletal concerns and can range from a mild, persistent ache to pain that significantly affects movement, sleep, work and everyday activities.
Pain may be associated with muscular tension, joint irritation, posture, repetitive strain, injury or changes within the spine. Some people may also experience pain, tingling or numbness that travels into the arms or legs.
Acupuncture for Neck & Back Pain
Acupuncture is commonly used as part of the management of neck pain, lower back pain and associated muscular tension.
Treatment is tailored to the individual and may involve acupuncture around the painful area as well as points elsewhere in the body. Depending on the presentation, techniques such as electroacupuncture, cupping or gua sha may also be incorporated.
The aim is to help reduce pain, release muscular tension and improve movement and function, allowing you to get back to doing the things you need and enjoy.
An Individualised Approach to Pain
Not all neck and back pain is the same.
Treatment considers where the pain is located, how it feels, what movements aggravate it, how long it has been present and whether there are associated neurological symptoms.
This allows treatment to be adapted to the individual rather than simply using the same acupuncture points for everyone with back or neck pain.
Where there is an underlying structural condition, acupuncture can be incorporated alongside appropriate medical care, physiotherapy, exercise or rehabilitation.
