What is insomnia? 

Is a sleep disorder characterised by difficulty falling asleep or difficulty staying asleep. 

What causes insomnia? 

Several factors contribute to insomnia, including stress, anxiety, lifestyle habits (caffeine, screen time before bed, etc) as well as side effects from some medications or medical conditions or even environmental disruptions such as noises and sounds etc.  

How is insomnia treated? 

Insomnia can be treated in many ways and treatment will depend on the severity of the insomnia and the possible causes. Creating healthy sleep hygiene practices will be beneficial to those with insomnia, turning off screens and bright lights leading up to bed, avoiding caffeine after lunch and limiting alcohol before bed etc. insomnia can also be treated with medications as well as Cognitive behavioural therapy.  

Acupuncture for insomnia: 

Acupuncture can be a useful tool in helping to manage the symptoms of insomnia.
