Labour Induction

As an expectant mother approaches her due date there is almost always a sense of excitement mixed with some anxiety about when the labour will finally begin. Acupuncute is a great option as safe and natural way to help prepare the body and promote labour.

How does acupuncture for  labour induction work?

Acupuncture for labour induction targets specific points on the body that can assist with:

  • Cervical ripening: preparing the cervix to soften and open is a key part of labour preparation. Acupuncute can help with the ripening process by helping to send blood to the area. This will help with labour and aim to make is a smoother process when it begins.

  • Relax the body and mind: Stress and anxiety can hinder the body’s natural labour signals. Acupuncture can help promote a state of calm and relaxation allowing the body to do as it needs leading up to and during labour

  • Stimulate uterine contractions: By selecting specific points acupuncture can help to gently encourage uterine contractions which can prime the body for labour.

At the Red Door Clinic we recommend coming in at 36 weeks. This gives us plenty of time and allows us to be extra gentl, not needing to rush the body, just supporting it in its final weeks. If you come in later than that it’s still going to be beneficial – but from 36 weeks is gold standard.

If you are seeking a gentle and natural way to induce your baby and support yourself in the last phase of your pregnancy, please get in touch or come visit the Red Door clinic in Caulfield!
