Prostate Health & Acupuncture

The prostate is an important part of the male reproductive system, and changes in prostate health become increasingly common with age.

Conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can contribute to urinary symptoms including increased frequency, urgency, waking during the night to urinate, difficulty starting urination, a weak urinary stream or a feeling that the bladder has not completely emptied.

Acupuncture for Prostate Health

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine may be used as a complementary approach to support men experiencing urinary symptoms associated with prostate health.

Treatment is individualised and may focus on symptoms such as urinary frequency, urgency, nocturia and difficulties with urinary function, while also considering sleep, stress and other aspects of the person’s health.

Where appropriate, acupuncture may be combined with Chinese herbal medicine, dietary advice and lifestyle support as part of a broader approach to men’s health.

Prostate Health Through a Chinese Medicine Lens

Chinese medicine considers urinary and prostate symptoms within the context of the man’s broader health and individual pattern.

Treatment may take into account urination, sexual function, energy, sleep, digestion, temperature and other accompanying symptoms. Two men experiencing similar prostate symptoms may therefore receive quite different treatments.

The aim is to address the presenting urinary symptoms while also working on the underlying Chinese medicine pattern contributing to them.

New or changing urinary symptoms should always be appropriately medically assessed, as similar symptoms can occur with a number of prostate and urinary conditions.
